Shine triples size of AWS Public Sector practice

Moves to larger Canberra office to support growth in government and education business

February 15, 2023

Shine today revealed its Public Sector Practice tripled in size in 2022 despite the challenges of increasing headcount in the tightest-ever labour market for software engineers.

Shine established a Public Sector Practice headquartered in Canberra in 2021, after completing key projects for the Department of Health, Digital Transformation Agency, and the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The Public Sector Practice expanded in 2022 by adding further Federal Government department clients, as well as universities and federal and state government agencies.

The leader of the practice, Steven Bridle, GM of Public Sector Consulting, said “Shine’s expansion with public sector clients in ACT, NSW and Victoria stems largely from the reputation we’ve built for being a trusted, reliable adviser and developer, offering technical excellence in leading-edge software development and modernisation.”

“Our deep expertise with highly-secure AWS Cloud solutions is affirmed by our AWS accreditation as a preferred Public Sector Partner and ProServe Ready Partner to work alongside the AWS Professional Services team. That gives our clients the greatest confidence in our proven ability to deliver robust, secure and reliable solutions.”

With Shine recruiting many staff in Canberra in 2022, CEO and founder, Mark Johnson, shared his theory on why Shine has been able to continually attract top talent in the industry while the market has been so tight.
“I think our continuing success with recruitment stems from a workplace culture that really nurtures highly technical engineers and drives inclusion of people across all diversity spectrums. We’re proud of our employee engagement score that ranks Shine in the top 10% of professional services organisations globally.”
“We’re actively recruiting in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, so any cloud engineers who are looking for their next challenge, we would encourage them to take a look at what we can offer at Shine.”

Shine’s AWS expertise has also been recently recognised with the awarding of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Migration Competency. This designation recognizes that Shine provides deep expertise and proven best practices to help customers move successfully to AWS, through all phases of complex discovery, planning, migration and operations.

And to further codify Shine’s 10 years of excellence with AWS, Shine is also pending assessment audits for both the AWS DevOps and Government Competencies, with an expectation for these designations to be bestowed in early 2023.
